Community Paramedicine Program

Community Paramedicine (CP) in Maine was enacted in 2017 after a successful pilot program. This is a practice conducted by licensed EMS providers to provide non emergency, episodic medical care to individuals at home by working with their primary care provider and other specialists.

The goal of the program is to reduce unecessary hospitalizations due to chronic conditions and help those without access to other services. CP assists with medication compliance, follow-up care, safety in the home as well as some laboratory testing.

Med-Care provides these services to those within our eleven member communities upon referral from their primary care provider (PCP) or other healthcare professional. We are currently grant funded to provide these services. Home visits are currently conducted during normal business hours Monday-Friday.

Our Community Paramedicine program provides the following services:

  • Routine vital signs and monitoring
  • Medication compliance
  • Blood draws
  • EKG
  • Safety evaluations
  • Vaccinations
  • Assistance with local resources
